Research

Focuses on integrating qualitative and quantitative methods in career construction counselling to foster people’s sense of meaning, hope, and purpose and clarification of their existential questions. Research aligns with SDG 8 and emphasizes inclusivity and indigenization of interventions.

Qualifications

A registered Educational Psychologist, Prof. Maree has obtained three doctoral degrees, namely DEd (Career Counselling), PhD (Teaching and Learning Facilitation in Mathematics), and DPhil (Psychology). He has obtained his undergraduate degree (BA (specialising in Mathematics, Greek, and Hebrew)), PGCE, Honours, and Master’s degrees in Education (specialising in Career Counselling), as well as a Master’s degree in Psychology cum laude. Doctoral degrees, considered the highest qualification in academia, are not awarded cum laude, as they represent the pinnacle of educational achievement

Received numerous prestigious awards, including the Stals Prize, IAAP Fellowship, UP Chancellor’s Medal, Exceptional Achiever Awards, and Fellowship of i. The International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) and the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA).

Author or co-author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, books, and book chapters, with significant citations and contributions to career counselling research.

Private Practice

For the past 35 years, I’ve maintained a private practice focused primarily on career construction counselling, self- and career identity clarification, and self-efficacy enhancement. Additionally, I’ve utilized clinical hypnotherapy, particularly from an Ericksonian approach, to provide therapy to people when appropriate and beneficial.
